Jeremiah Ray…

… is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in coastal Maine. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

His visual artwork is similar to his life in that it is a continual process of exploration and discovery. During his early years, Jeremiah traveled widely, exploring languages and cultures to satisfy a need for adventure and to better understand himself.

Jeremiah completed his MFA in studio art with one goal—to teach. He aimed to help others discover and develop their unique personal voice. He has always believed that art goes beyond words. Finding one’s voice in a personal medium and using it to express nonverbally is both the hardest challenge and the greatest strength.

In 2016, Jeremiah was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer. The experience drastically changed his perspective on art, both visual and written, and reinforced his belief that art is a universal language. Burdened by the emotional weight of the diagnosis, Jeremiah became increasingly aware that he often lacked the words to fully understand and express his experiences. During this challenging time, he set out to answer two core questions: What does it mean to be vulnerable? And how do I communicate this to others?

With these questions in mind, he has been on a journey of healing and discovery.
